And a happy new year to all - 2006! that's the first time i've typed it, and i'll admit that it does look a bit odd, and off-kilter. new. green. too small for its boots....
New Year's Eve (all caps? why? because it is The Last Day of Last Year?) was a quiet evening here for me...i opted to turn down an invitation in town with two others for a quiet one here alone with myself and aspen, embroidering tiny little faceted metallic bronze seed beads onto a quilted piece of muslin for a book i'm making myself (how novel - artwork for ME?), a tiny thing from an old McGuffey's third eclectic reader cover and watercolor pages. naturally i thought i'd have the thing assembled and finished by today - what a joke - and spent eight hours alone on the embroidery. a peaceful way, though, to usher out the past year and bow hello to the new.
in the middle of my stitching, long about dusk, i happened to glance up at the stretch of windows across the front of the living room and notice a tiny spot of soft pink reflecting in one of my armoire mirrors to the left. interested, i stood and walked over to glance out and gasped at the western sky - and ran back to grab my camera before what was there transformed into something else. winter sunsets are amazing - and this one. THIS ONE! when i came back inside there was a message from a neighbor telling me to get outside and enjoy the show. i'm fortunate to have captured the very last sunset of 2005.

Taking time alone on New Years Eve is probably the best present you can give yourself. The heavens rewarded you with their splendor. I predict 2006 will be a rich & rewarding year for you.
