my big day has arrived: i am headed for the land down under, to a place some call Oz. it hasn't hit me, still, nor are my bags packed, the kits fully assembled, the jewelry priced and tagged. so typical! and, not quite knowing what to pack when the woods still sport white lacey snow and their far away land shines warm and bright from the sun, i'm sticking to my new and easy photo palette of black and grey and white. see these pants? they'll go to the opera in sydney, sans the wicked witch/munchkin socks (those i'll wear on the plane; nope, i'm not traveling by broom).
i've become addicted to black and white photography this month, thanks to the self portrait challenges; when before i would have leaned towards warm late afternoon tones and deeper saturated color, i'm opting more and more for the simplicity of shadow and lines, light and dark, the shades of grey that fall somewhere in between. it will be interesting to see what photos i take from a land far away that will turn up in black and white - a place so full of color, so different from our own.
remember a couple of posts back when i said "i wish i were taking a laptop with me - i don't own one, or i would - so that i could be in touch while away."? well, wish #6,712 has been granted by a wonderful fairy godmother, who is sending me the lovely gift of a laptop that she doesn't use. it will be arriving by federal express this morning, just in time for me to use for the trip, and to keep. wishes do come true. just look at me - off on this grand adventure, going to two countries i've longed to see all my life, with a new-to-me laptop in hand. i hope to be in touch while away. see you there. xo
