at first, i was going to write "i wish you all could see my studio" - and still, you see, i'm writing it - but i'm changing that to say that its a good thing you can't see what's in there, at all. i can hardly see anything, myself. i'm not sure what it is about my personality and genetic make up that keeps me from handling things in any sort of orderly way. piles form, quickly. stacks and piles and general mess. i'm sick of it. i wish for a larger studio with far more shelf space, and adequate drawers with labels on everything. i work in something like an 8 x 10 sized room, with next to nothing for a closet space. two windows, ah yes, and hardwood floors - and a bathroom, tiny but complete. but the mess, oh how it does put me to shame.
i purchased some lovely little vintage brass hair combs probably ten years ago; at the time, they seemed like beautiful blank slates, ready for anything i wished to do to them. time came, time went, and they were stashed into one of my many little unlabeled drawers within that studio. over the weekend, while looking for something else, i found them all over again, and this time knew just what to do.
there are six sets of these, over in my little etsy shop. go see.
one of these days, i'll find the time to sort and pitch and toss and file away, neat as a pin. who knows when that will be; i fantasize about renting a dumpster for a month, having it parked right below the deck and tossing as much over the railing and into that thing as i can. but for now, a priority: i'm off to bake myself a lovely cake with carrots and nuts and whipped cream cheese. yes i am. xo

oh yummmmm!
delicious anticipation!

My boys try to stay out of my "studio" which is a small extra bedroom but when they see it, they always laugh at me. I bought a nice looonnnggg table but it ends up filled up with so many parts and pieces that I end up working in an 8-inch spot-all hunched over and squished. I happen to think it part of the creative mind :)

And if you had a larger space, it would be just as disorderly. That's just a fact of our lives. You obviously work best that way because you make such beautiful jewelry!

when the station fires in california were licking the back of my home a few years ago, i had a very similar fantasy...it's sorta like a clean slate!!

Cream cheese icing on homemade carrot cake or pecan and cocnut icing on from scratch German chocolate cake - hmmmm. . . what a decision! And one that I have to make every year for October 18 - we are birthday twins, exactly - even the same year. So, from here in very dry central Texas to you in the greening to fall Carolina, I am wishing you a wonder-full birthday and happier year to come.

I can't wait to hear what you thought of the creative work space in Colorado. How did you find that space for working in?
these are lovely...

I have dumpster fantasies also! I rarely see the top of my work space in my studio either. I just seem to gravitate toward piling things up. The most frustrating thing for me is that I know something is there somewhere but can't put my hands on it. So excited about the "Traveling is for Babies" pendant I ordered. Can't wait to see it.
