i'm still here, i really am. sorry to be so quiet. but after nearly two weeks of solid, very physical work in the studio - pulling out, putting into piles, sorting, sifting, boxing, shipping, pitching, culling, all of that - i'm seeing a bit of headway, but am nowhere near the point of stopping and getting back to making jewelry (and mixed media again, i've missed that so much). i can't wait to be able to snap some "after" photographs - the here and the now - which aren't anywhere near here, just yet. good lord. i'm not sure why it is such a difficult thing for me to stay organized, once i've made some efforts to straighten and sort; things take over like kudzu, in that tiny little space where i create, and after a while i don't know where anything is, i am not able to find a single thing. how sad. but, goodness! how rewarding all of this has been, to hear how pleased you are, those who've ordered boxes and have then taken the time to write and tell me what fun you are having discovering what i've sent on its way! from one happy recipient: "hi nina - not to sound too much like a nut ball.... but that box was great. it is like you knew exactly what i needed. the metal pieces were perfect. even words on a piece of silver , were for me. the heart with the poem. the dictionary pages . the red silk came at a perfect time . i had just made a drawing of a moon i made into an indian chief with red feathers. soon to be made out of fabric. i could go on and on ... what a treat. it really makes one realize how good it is to past things on. i try to do that often but i need to do more. again everything was perfect and wonderful. if you are like me you are finding things you totally forgot you had. that is the gift of cleaning." from another: "Hello Nina! I just wanted you to know that I received my shipment. I am delighted with the treasures you sent! I'll make good and loving use of them. Emptying the box was a little like visiting your blog...an intimate experience, and delightful. Thank you for all of it." and another, "Hi Nina, I hope you are making good headway with your studio de-clutter and organization project. I do not envy you the job but applaud anyone who takes on such an undertaking. I received my big box o’goodies today and had a lovely half hour opening it up slowly and removing each item, looking it over, and placing it into a pile. What pile, you ask? I don’t know exactly, but each item was carefully placed in one of six piles. I guess a mental health professional would be able to shed some insight into this odd behavior but I haven’t a clue. What I do know for sure, you sent me a fabulous collection of inspiring items and I am going to have so much fun coming up with ways to use them up! Thank you for sharing these treasures and for allowing me to “assist” you in your on-going project." i love that term, "on-going project", so very appropo for what this is: ongoing. now, if only i could channel and keep the energy of organizational skills intact, on a daily basis, and remember at day's end to straighten up before i turn out the light. today's work includes, i am thinking, a trip to asheville to the staples store there to purchase a couple of sets of decent filing cabinets (the sort that, unlike the one i have, will allow me to open the drawers with great ease, to allow actual use of the things) and some sort of surface to stretch across the cabinets for a new work table. thanks to you, those who've ordered and paid for boxes, i can turn some of what you've sent and invest right back into an improvement for my work station. there is no way that i'm going to let the dilapidated, sagging table from a long ago church rummage sale get filled and covered back up again. stay posted. xo

Love the photo!

I am so excited - I received your jewelry-size box and feel as if I have been gifted part of "you." It is such a treat to see pieces of your work that I KNOW you made which can be incorporated into work that will stretch my usual self-imposed boundaries. Going through each little trinket - the tiny hearts, puzzle-like tiles, hand stamped silver, lockets - that you routinly incorporate into your work, I'm amazed again at the complexity and emotion that goes into each of your pieces. Thank you for this amazing gift.

I agree with the idea that organizing your studio space is an ON-GOING project, Nina! It certainly feels as though cleaning and clearing my creative space is on-going. I am so happy to be a part of your clearing and I look forward to opening my box of goodies you sent to me; it arrived on Saturday, but I've been waiting until I'm home alone in my creative space to see what treats await for me...
I'd wait until my birthday to open the box but I can't wait until next week! ;) But I can still pretend it's a "birthday gift" from you =-) Thank you for sharing your supplies with us all!!

It would be fun to see some photos from those that are making things with the boxes you sent out!

good to hear from you. You inspired me to organize my closet. I have made a pact with myself to hang things back up where I got them from. One thing I did was to remove the extraneous hangers so that when its time to hang something up its hanger(home) is waiting for it. we'll see what happens. Once you get a home for each and every thing, I think you'll keep it organized. You can use some of your plates and special containers so that you can see inside the homes of your supporters....smile..

You would think that your effort to organize your work space would be my inspiration to do the same.... but alas, it has not worked and I sit here looking at my mess.
With the holidays coming and gifts to be created, I find myself a bit overwhelmed.
Please keep posting about how this has given you a new perspective and makes you more creative... because I'm hoping that one of these posts will light a fire under me soon. It is an "ongoing" effort.

Your box arrived today, and I am looking into it like a box of dark chocolate I haven't seen in years! I open the lid, and peek, and see a wonderful treasure.. Sing oh Joy! And close the lid. Then wait as long as I can, and peek again, for another WONDERFUL treasure!!! What a treat, from your heart-stash to mine. It excites me to return the favor, in goods I've been collecting for you, for jewelry in your own making! The circle goes round and round... Love You, Hol

As of Monday morning when I left for vacation, I had not yet received my box. My mail is on hold at the post office, so I am sure it will wait there safely until I return in two weeks or so. I'll be in touch after that. I can't wait to open my goodie box!
Hugs,
Frankie

How do you let go of your treasures, I feel like I am your sister in your family, with the same crazy issues....jewelry designer with out of control studio, wanting to do mixed media event more than jewelry, all those supplies hanging in the background waiting for me, and whe.n I get to either one of them I can't find anything,,,,,,omg. Sometimes I think I'm crazy. You have alot of courage to tackle this,,,,,,,and of course an inspiration for all of us..... I am running to the porch everyday looking for Nina xxoo

I brought my husband in to look at your photo. We both sat in awe of how it was both literal and abstract at the same time. Love, love LOVE it!
And I am the same as you, organization is not in my dna. So I am filled with admiration and inspiration as you purge, clean and organize. Perhaps that will be my winter project.
