my heart breaks for you I so understand the bond.

Ah, no. This cannot be. Not the little Aspen boy! I have often wondered how I could fall so utterly and hopelessly in love with a virtual doggie, but I did. Beautiful, beautiful boy, I kiss your velvet nose. Goodnight sweet prince. There is no consolation. Hug to you Nina. x

Nina, I am so, so sorry for your loss. You will always hold Aspen in a special place in your heart. He is basking in the sunshine now and his ears are flapping as he bounds through the tall green grass of doggy heaven, chasing bunnies with my Sesha and all the other much loved four legged companions we humans have been fortunate enough to share our lives with. I will so miss seeing pictures of sweet Aspen in your blog posts. My heart is breaking for you as I wipe my tears. Many hugs..

I am so, so very sorry. My heart is heavy and full Nina. Our pets capture a whole other part of our heart. They teach us unconditional love, they never judge, they always love us, they always want to be with us. Hold on tight to your memories of Aspen. He will always be with you in spirit!!!!!

I am so, so sorry, Nina, for the loss of your dear friend.

Dear Nina,
I´m so sorry for your loss... I too know how much it hurts. I like to think that we, people, who know how incredible can be living with such good fellows, are so privileged. We recieve a lot and learn a lot more about giving, loving, being happy, enjoying the little things about life. Hugs from faraway land...

Nina, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of your dear friend Aspen. I loved seeing him in your photos on your blog. We will all miss seeing him here.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.
May your heart lighten again soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about Aspen's death. We lost Snowball, our dog of 17 years, a few years ago, so I know how hard this time can be. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the boys. I'm sure Aspen is running through sunshine filled fields now in a better place.

You don't know me but I have been reading your blog for months. I too have an English Springer, "Lucy". I know how much you will miss Aspen, I am so sorry.

Oh my dear Nina, my heart cries out for you.

Nina, you must be shattered. I'm very, very sorry to hear the devastating news. So many of us were privileged to get to know Aspen just a little bit, and we all share your loss. Big hugs, Beth

Nina, so sorry for your loss...I was away for a few days and trying to catch up on my posts...can only send you my best wishes for you during this time. If you are so inclined, check out "Sedona" magazine for some new thoughts on the spirits of animals. Best to you, Robertaa

Nina dear, I'm so sorry that aspen has gone on to wherever our precious dogs go at the end. Your sad news brings back the day when my beloved Rusty died in my arms. Good memories hurt and they bring great joy as well. May you have joy in the morning.

Nina, I am so sorry. I am so so sorry for your loss. May Aspen's spirit comfort you. There is nothing like the love of a good dog and nothing as painful as the loss of a constant loyal companion. You both are in my prayers tonight.

A sweet, sweet dog. I feel your deep sadness and send you hugs from Down Under.

Hugs for you xxxxxxxxxxxxxooooooooooooo

............the words have all been expressed but my thoughts are with you as I read the sad news of Aspen. What a magnificent life he enjoyed with you Nina - you gave him so much love and care.

(I've just returned from England and came to check your blog this morning - I hope you can feel my hug from across the miles dear).

rusted wings

what a long, wonderful life you shared with aspen, and know you gave him the most loving life experience he could have had....peaceful rest to him and peace to you dear!

I know how much you will miss your constant companion. I feel grateful that I got to meet him and to briefly know his gentle ways. I am thinking of you and am here if you want to get in touch.
Hugs, Sarah

I knew that there were a lot of Nina-lovers out there, but didn't know how many were also dog lovers. Here's something that Mary Oliver wrote about dogs:
"We open the door and he [Ben the dog] glides away without a backward glance. It is early, in the blue and grainy air we can just see him running along the edge of the water, into the first pink suggestion of sunrise. And we are caught by the old affinity, a joyfulness -- his great and seemly pleasure in the physical world. Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like eithout dogs?"

I just shouted out loud -Oh Noooooo - it is too heartbreaking. Take care of yourself.

This is truly a sad week in blogland. Aspen was not alone on the Rainbow Bridge -- Pixie (a little dashund),and a beautiful orange tabby cat crossed over with him. I picture them as the characters in the Wizard of Oz and Aspen is the one that's all heart.

Sending hugs.

I know how big a hole their departure leaves....

Imagining us sitting, quietly, together, with hot tea, tears in our eyes, looking out over your beautiful mountains, listening to the birds and the moving leaves.

my heart aches for you nina - sending (((hugs))) and warmth your way. xx suz

So sorry to hear about your pup. Good thoughts and prayers for your comfort today.

i am not a blog follower, but the times i have visited here i have been touched and felt at home. aspen was part of that. as i sit here on this beautiful 78 acre farm that i am blessed to steward, tears fall down my cheeks. i look over at my own border collies, josh now 15 and deaf and bailey at 14 hips failing. still ready to bound with joy across the fields, always ready to rest their heads on my lap. incredible gifts, incredible loves and incredible loss. i share your heart and your hurt. love, patti

Dear Nina,
Wishing you much love and comfort during this time. I know how truly painful it is to loose our fur children. My thoughts are with you.
All my best,

Tina Cully

My heart aches for you. I hear the love in your heart as you have written about this special soul so often. You are in my thoughts and prayers...

Michelle Leray

Oh Nina, I am so sorry for your loss! I know how heart-breaking it is to lose a deeply loved, 4 legged member of the family. In some situations it's harder than losing a human person. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Aspen.....Sueno con los angelitos!!!!

Teri Mahl

We lost our dog almost one year ago and still it hurts me to see another similar to her. I visit her grave occasionally and feel lost without her. I wish that life could be forever. Aspen's face is just so sweet in the photo. I know you must be really hurting as I still do. It is comforting, I'm sure, to know that so many feel the love you have shared for and with your dog. In that way, he lives in our hearts as well as yours.

Leslie Avon Miller

Aspen was dear to me from knowing him on your blog. You two had beautiful love. The cherished kind. I am sorry for your loss.

i am so sorry for the loss of your very dear friend Aspen.

Ahh , Nina. I'm so sorry for your loss. I sobbed like I'd lost a son when my boy passed away , and cried again for Aspen and Tom both this morning. You have my sympathies , and I hope that busy work schedule will help you through this.

Those faithful ones...oh how we will miss them, yet we do not want them to suffer. Aspen is resting and waiting...

Linda Mondloch

Nina, I'm so sorry. I will miss the many sweet photos of the two of you sharing time and space. Linda

My heart goes out to you!

Heart-Shaped Rock Cottage

I am heartbroken for you. And so glad you have the best memories of such a beautiful fur friend. Sigh.

as usual, i'm behind and trying to catch up. i'm so sorry to learn about Aspen. you know he was a friend to us too. he had a good life and i'm happy to have known him through your blog.

Nina, I've dreaded this day ever since the first time I read Ornamental several years ago. I knew how much you needed Aspen because I had the same relationship with Jasper. They did know how much we needed them and the unconditional love and acceptance they gave us. That's why they left us when we weren't there, to save us from the decision. I only found out about Aspen now because I've been tied up in the machinations of my own life (including losing another dog) and have fallen out of the habit of blog-reading.

I wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I'm happy for you and Walter and the other good news in your life. Life gives and takes but it just sucks that dogs, while they live longer than they used to, still don't live as long as they deserve to! Take care of yourself and be happy.
